Air Canada Pilots Vote on Strike Mandate
Turbulence Ahead for Air Travellers
Union Requesting Strike Mandate in Dispute with Air Canada
Air Canada pilots are currently voting on a strike mandate, which closes on August 19th. If members vote in favor of the mandate, the union representing the pilots, the Air Line Pilots Association Intl (ALPA), could call for a strike.
The strike vote comes after several months of disruptions for air travellers due to pilot shortages and other operational issues at Air Canada. The union is seeking improvements to working conditions and pay, among other demands.
If pilots vote in favor of the strike mandate, it does not necessarily mean that a strike will occur. However, it would give the union the authority to call for a strike if negotiations with Air Canada fail to resolve the dispute.
Air Canada has said that it is committed to reaching a fair and reasonable agreement with its pilots. The airline has also emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and reliable operation for its customers.
